i became interested in donor advised funds a couple of years ago and since then, i’ve seen some interesting ways to get the greater community involved. austin’s entrepreneurs foundation gets startups involved by contributing equity which gets converted upon floating stock to the public. the ripley county community foundation’s executive director, sally morris, announced a donor-advised fund option that enables participants to invest $1000 instead of the usual $5000 minimum requirement. once investors reach $5000 after several $1000-per-year investments, the fund can begin to support the selected charitable organization. i like this approach. it’s sort of like courting vs. dating.
